Just three days ago at 4:08am local time an 7.2 Magnitude earthquake struck in the South Pacific 45km South-east of Vanuatu. The epicentre is reported being 1996km north east of Brisbane.
“Based on all available data a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii,” read an advisory from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre.
There no reports of any injuries, deaths, or damages yet and the location/magnitude may be adjusted as more information comes in. I will provide more updates as they become available.
Update 1: A resort owner in Santo Vanuatu says this mornings earthquake was the most powerful she has ever felt. Cleanup is going to take time and be costly - but there is agreement it could have been much worse
